The Coral and Cameo Consortium of Torre del Greco

The Coral and Cameo Consortium of Torre del Greco was established on September 2, 2024, in Torre del Greco as the operational branch of Assocoral, the association that since 1977 has brought together artisans and traders in the fields of coral, cameo, and related materials.

The main objective of the Consortium is to address specific needs and seize new opportunities that, by their nature, a trade association cannot directly pursue.

From its very foundation, the Consortium identified an ambitious goal: to obtain PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) recognition for the region’s artisanal products of excellence, particularly coral and cameo. In less than a year of activity, two technical specifications were drafted in preparation for the PGI application, marking a significant milestone for the entire sector.

At the same time, the Consortium has been recognized as the fourth founding member of the Campania Goldsmith District (D.Or. Campania) — a network of excellence aimed at strengthening and promoting the regional goldsmithing and jewelry supply chain. Through this collaboration, a feasibility study has been presented to help attract new strategic investments benefiting all of Campania’s productive sectors, including Torre del Greco, a city that for over two centuries has been a symbol of coral and cameo craftsmanship.

Thanks to its consortial structure, the organization is also developing projects focused on the sustainability of raw materials, the creation of new business opportunities, and the implementation of targeted communication and promotion strategies — all with the goal of strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and reputation on both the national and international stage.
